But in the category of “Short Films Produced By Rappers” I’m not sure all of your lights can compete with this African boy saga. All other rap video directors: you are so fired. All Afro-everything renaissance man Blitz the Ambassador drops his new LP Native Sun today and in case the full streaming version with video montage wasn’t enough to sell it, he dropped this video too! (Sidebar: what a difference a plane ticket makes. Based on this and the Baloji joints, I don’t care if you are from Yonkers–from now on ALL rappers should shoot their videos in Africa.) It makes sense though, cause this song seems like kind of a mission statement for the ambitious goals Blitz set for himself with Native Sun–doing the whole damn diaspora proud–and it does not disappoint.

This past Friday, Out Da Box TV dropped the latest clip from their weekly interview series. In this edition, they sit down with Ghanaian emcee Blitz The Ambassador. Blitz speaks on hip-hop’s influence on Africa, the types of music that make up his sound, as well as the stereotypes Africa as a whole continue to face to this day. The clip also gives a sample of Blitz’ live show with his band, The Embassy Ensemble.

Blitz The Ambassador and The Embassy Ensemble were recently in France to perform at the Trans Musicales Festival. 58,000 concert-goers saw the likes of Janelle Monae, MIA, and A-Trak bless the stage. To close out his set, watch Blitz perform this new song “Best I Can,” off his upcoming LP, Native Sun (dropping in April 2011).
