Mark Ronson is a sought-after turntablist who’s worked with such diverse artists as Macy Gray, Jay-Z, and comedian Jimmy Fallon. The stepson of guitarist Mick Jones of Foreigner, Ronson spent the first eight years of his life growing up in England. Having played guitar and drums from an early age, it wasn’t until moving to New York City with his mother that Ronson discovered DJ culture. At age 16, already a fan of such popular hip-hop artists as Run-D.M.C. and the Beastie Boys, Ronson began listening to the various hip-hop mixtapes released every few months by DJs. Inspired, Ronson confiscated his father’s record collection and began trying his hand at mixing.

The young DJ with the diverse taste soon caught the ears and eyes of various socialites and New York celebrities, including fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, who featured Ronson along with other sons and daughters of celebrities in a 1997 fashion campaign. A year later, hip-hop mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs hired Ronson to DJ his fabled 29th birthday bash. These and other high-profile gigs boosted Ronson’s “hip quotient” and helped promote his more serious-minded music career. Fusing his eclectic turntable skills with his knowledge of musical instruments and songwriting, Ronson eventually embarked on his first solo project. Featuring such diverse guest artists as dancehall rapper Sean Paul, hip-hop artist Mos Def, Jack White ofthe White Stripes, and Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, Ronson’s debut album, Here Comes the Fuzz, bowed for Elektra in 2003.

After releasing his debut album, Ronson kept busy producing tracks for a number artists, including Amy Winehouse, whose 2006 album Back to Black earned critical praise in large part for Ronson’s throwback, Motown-influenced production. His own sophomore effort, Version, dropped in 2007.

The Gnarls Barkley collaboration didn’t bring producer Danger Mouse to the top of the British charts for the first time, but it did mark his debut as the pilot of a hit record. Mouse, born Brian Burton, first gained the ears of discriminating listeners when he concocted The Grey Album, a bootleg that mashed the vocals from The Black Albumby Jay-Z with music samples courtesy of The White Album by EMI flagship the Beatles. Although the label posted a cease-and-desist order, one of their employees, Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz, was one of the impressed, and he hired Burton to create the beats for the second Gorillaz album, Demon Days. Just one year later,Danger Mouse was back in the charts with another collaboration project, Gnarls Barkley, with singer Cee-Lo Green (a solo artist and former member of Atlanta’s Goodie Mob). The pair had met in Atlanta in the late ’90s, and began recording together around the time of a 2003 DM record titled Ghetto Pop Life. A few recordings were passed around and played by many associated with the pair, and eventually one of the leaked tracks, “Crazy,” became a hot property for the download market. It became the first single vaulted to the top of the British charts by digital distribution, and the resulting album, St. Elsewhere, peaked at number one on the album charts. A follow-up was not long in coming; The Odd Couple dropped in early 2008.

MNDR (pronounced “mandar”), is an electronic music duo, formed in 2009 in New York, that consists of Amanda Warner and Peter Wade.

Warner moved from Oakland, California, to New York a year in 2009 to work as a songwriter for hire. But it was only after meeting Wade that she began to consider fronting her own act. MNDR has opened for bands like YACHT, Massive Attack, and Deerhoof. Together, the duo uploaded four tracks to MySpace in 2009, which eventually morphed into MNDR’s debut EP, E.P.E.. The band is currently[when?] at work on their first full-length album, tentatively scheduled for release in early 2011. The song “Fade to Black” from E.P.E was re-recorded in the Simlish language of The Sims and is featured in The Sims 3: High-End Loft Stuff. MNDR’s Amanda Warner features on the song “Bang Bang Bang“, the first single taken from Record Collection, the third studio album byMark Ronson. The song was co-written by both Warner, Wade, Q-Tip and Mark Ronson. Daniel Kreps from describes MNDR as providing “the song’s indelible French-laden hook,” while “a debonair Q-Tip absolutely slays on his verses.”Warner also featured with Ronson on his 2010 tour in support of the album.
